LECTURE

In this project, Miss Jinchi gave us suggestion to find questions that would be important for our project later on.

INSTRUCTION

For this project, we were asked to collect some data about the culture that we chose. At first I was still confused about what we should provide in our data research. However, after several discussion and examination, we decided that we would do google form at first.

We created questions that we think would be relevant for our project.

Here are the questions that we made:
  • How old are you?
  • What is your Nationality?
  • Have you been to Bali?
  • How interesting do you think Balinese Culture is?
  • Have you ever heard of Nyepi day in Bali?
  • Do you know that Nyepi is a day of silence? (The island is completely shut down)
  • Which of these Nyepi rules are you aware of?
  • Do you know that local people perform several ceremonies on Nyepi? (Ngembak Geni, Ogoh-Ogoh, Omed-omedan)
  • Have you ever participated on any Nyepi event?
  • What do you think is the most interesting part of Nyepi culture?
  • Are you aware of what the tourists should and shouldn't do on Nyepi day?
  • How much do you like to travel and learn about other culture?
  • Are you interested in knowing more about Nyepi culture?
  • Would you like to visit Bali on Nyepi?

After that, we decided on doing interview as well. I was thinking of interviewing a local Balinese to know more about Nyepi. I then found out that our classmate, Wendy Seto is Balinese. We then proceed to make the questions.
  • What is Nyepi day for Balinese people?
  • What do Balinese do on Nyepi?
  • How do you see Nyepi?
  • Do you often or usually participate in celebrating Nyepi? If yes, how?
  • So we know that there are many tourists in Bali right. Do you think most of them have respected Baliness culture?
  • As a local person, do you think that the tourists are being ignorant, or uneducated?
  • What things that maybe tourists don't know about Nyepi?
  • Do you think Nyepi is a mystical culture?
  • Would you encourage people to learn more about Nyepi? Why?
  • What do u think will be an effective way to educate non local people about Nyepi?

The reason why we did this interview to know more about Nyepi from the local people’s perspective.

Here is the video of our recording:

After that, we decided to add more details information about Nyepi. I also added youtube observation n wrote the summarized version under it.

Here is our final Presentation:

FEEDBACK

Miss Jinchi said that half of the presentation was about the basic research, which is actually the initial research when you embarked on this topic in the first assignment. Miss Jinchi also said that the PDF submitted were not the detailed one. She also mentioned that the design of the slides should be considered since the members' faces are covering some of the texts.

REFLECTION

I personally feel like we didn't do great in this project. By that time I felt so exhausted and I was having a hard time figuring on what to do and what to put in the presentation. I tried to find inspiration from other groups' slides but I still found myself confused most of the time. I managed to collect myself and proceed to finish. However I realized that the result was not a satisfactory. Therefore, I will try to do better in the next project.
